THE TOURS
Explore Delhi,
One Dynasty at a Time
Seven Cities is all about discovering Delhi through the layers of its history—dynasty by dynasty, empire by empire. Each week, we dive into a different chapter of the city’s past, brought to life by our own participants. These member-led tours are the heart of the program: engaging, informal, and full of surprises.
From early Muslim rulers and Mughal emperors to colonial intrigue and the road to independence, each tour blends storytelling, research, and on-site exploration. Scroll down to preview the eight historical periods we explore each season.

01
The Mumluk Dynasty
Meet Delhi’s first Muslim rulers—a formidable crew of former Central Asian slaves who clawed their way to power in the 13th century. Discover how their reign laid the groundwork for Indo-Islamic architecture and how they managed to run a kingdom while constantly watching their backs.
02
The Khaljii Dynasty
Get swept up in tales of rapid fortress-building, court intrigue, and military muscle as the Khalji rulers stamp their authority on Delhi in the late 13th and early 14th centuries—undeterred by sufi curses or Mongol invasions.
03
The Tughlaq Dynasty
Enter an era of wild ambition and even wilder politics. From the eccentric madness of one sultan to the pragmatic reforms of his cousin, the Tughlaqs gave Delhi both grand monuments and ghost towns—plus a few superstitions that still linger.
04
Sayyid & Lodhi Dynasties
As Delhi transitioned from chaos to consolidation in the 15th century, the Sayyids and Lodis left behind not only dynastic intrigue but also a legacy of Persian-inspired tombs and city planning that hinted at the coming of the Mughals.
05
The Early Mughals
From a sheep-herding warrior to an emperor with a library more impressive than his battlefield skills, the early Mughals brought Delhi into a new era of imperial ambition. Watch how Akbar’s vision begins to reshape the very idea of empire.
06
The Late Mughals
Peer into the grandeur—and the downfall—of a once-mighty dynasty. Between poetic love stories, brutal betrayals, and imperial overreach, the final Mughal emperors found themselves trapped in the ruins of their own making.
07
The East India Company
Unravel the rise of merchant-soldiers who traded cotton for cannons. As the East India Company tightened its grip on Delhi in the 18th and early 19th centuries, its legacy became inseparable from rebellion, conquest, and colonial control.
08
The Raj & Independence
Step into the corridors of imperial spectacle and anti-colonial resistance. From the symbolic declaration of Delhi as capital to the posturing of the British Raj, this final chapter of empire gave way to the birth of a new nation.
